SUSQUEHANNA & JUNIATA RIVERS, PA: ***1/2; Mostly clear but for the east side; 60ish; 5.1 at Harrisburg falling slowly; 4.9 at Newport on the Juniata with a little rise expected.
I left the Susquehanna Saturday but there was plenty of water and the fish were biting. I spent six and a half weeks there, HQ at Riverfront Campground and I give it a B+ for fish; a D for weather and an A for good buds and best times.
This was our best week for numbers where we had 70-80 a couple days and the quality was one of the best in my 25-years here.
Like I always say—use anything you want as long as it’s a KP Series tube from Johnny Cunningham of Riverfront Campground. Our “new” guys always try to defeat that—but none ever do. The Case Baby Magic Swim on an RAB Swim Jig was 2nd top producer
There were two spawn periods during my tenure but expect more as the weather stabilizes and the moon gets fat.
I talk about equipment and clothing a lot and for good reason. For instance, two clients showed up with their salt water gear including braid line, swivels and thick leaders. Man how they struggled until I loaned them an Ardent rod with an Aden C-Force reel spooled with 8-pound test Excel monofilament. WOW—they actually began to catch bass and loved the gear.
The same goes for clothing. You no longer have to be cold and wet. Just remember that wind dictates true temperature. If the air reads 50 and the wind in 15—the feel like temp is 35. Oh, and hey guys—it’s ok to wear socks too. When!

UPPER POTOMAC RIVER: **1/2; 60s; clear but a good clear; 2.8 at Point of Rocks rising to 3.6 by Tuesday.
You can’t ask for better conditions and I’m pleased to say that in spite of little or no help from our DNR—the bass population seems greatly improved. Look for spawning activity these next few weeks and know that there has already been at least one.
It’s too cold to wade safely so boats and other vessels are recommended. You want to target areas where calmed water meets moving water and do that best with Campground tubes by Riverfront Campground. Case Magi Stiks are deadly but you can’t fish them fast, Use a 3/0 hook with no weight on 8 pound test monofilament.
I prefer the launch sites between Brunswick and Seneca. The sun is your friend—for now.

TIDAL POTOMAC RIVER: **; mid-60s; some color
My first trip on the Potomac was not a good one. Crank battery was dead (thanks Jay for that lithium starter) and the bilge pump quit. We were taking on water as the plug was in the livewell hole. I aways carry an emergency pump and we persevered. We only caught 5 bass and it was hot. I think this was just a test.

For well-behaved boys 12-18 that are really, really into fishing and shooting. We don’t tell ghost stories and roast marshmallows because my boys are doing manly stuff from dawn till dark.
My lodge is in northern PA, a five bedroom facility near a trout stream. Parents are not permitted. We interview each other in person and the boys all ride to camp with me and my councilors.
Sessions are weekly, Monday thru Friday. $1000
Two Weeks: (includes a weekend) $2200
Sessions: July 11-15; July 18-22; July 25-29 (we must have at least 6 boys to make it work per week)
