SUSUEHANNA & JUNIATA RIVERS, PA: **1/2; clear’ mid 50s; post spawn; 5 feet at Harrisburg and 4.8 at Newport on the Juniata.
Another crazy week of weather beginning with long underwear and Simms and ending with tee shirts and sun screen. Our fishing success kinda copied the weather but in reverse. Fishing was awesome in the cold and tough in the hot. Note though that spawn #2 is just about over and we see signs of the new wave moving in.
As always the Campground Tubes outperformed all other with shout-outs to Case Magic Swim and Big Mouth “Penrod” spinnerbait. Get yours at Riverfront Campground.
The rivers are falling quickly which is a reason why I always end my time here at the end of April. Sunday was my last day and I head to the tidal Potomac from here.
I have said: “This year is the best year in my 20-some year career here for quality and quantity of quality with our best being 6 pounds, 11 ounces—and we scored 26 bass that qualified for the Ken Penrod 20-Inch Club. BUT, I want to qualify that statement. Our success and that of so many other must credit a small portion of the river system. Main stem, traditional haunts were totally disappointing. Thanks to all the other anglers I shared water with these past weeks.
