Rumors of my demise are highly exaggerated and but “absent without leave” Is a fact. See, we bought a new home in Lusby, MD after looking at at least 50 places. We are in a 15-house private community called Rousy Woods.
I’m the same drive to Smallwood State Park and Slavins with Belle Haven a bit longer. The upper Potomac adds about 40 minutes and Susquehanna an hour—but I stay there for 6-7 weeks at a time. So what?
Lusby is in southern Maryland but a good art of MD. It’s near Solomon’s and between the Potomac and Patuxent with the Bay a 10 minute boat ride. I really love my Beltsville house but Beltsville isn’t the Beltsville we moved to 30 years ago. Yep—we planned to “downsize” but that’s a joke. We doubled up!
Still, if I had to be off the water for a month—this was the one. July was the hottest July EVER. August is on a way to break records—and we received 8 INCHES of rain.
Anyway—that’s my excuse for being AWOL and for the first time in nearly 40-years—I did not offer fishing reports for an extended time.
I’ve been hard to reach too, because Comcast doesn’t work very efficiently and I was sent to FACEBOOK JAIL because I accused Biden and his motley crew of being communist, inept, incompetent and a liar..
SO—there you have it, we will not complete our move for months and for now our Sellman address will be the go-to. Our cell phones work well here so communicating now will be easier.
God bless our soldiers that died as a direct result of this Democrat Administration. I am sad beyond words.

UPPER POTOMAC RIVER: *; near 90 degrees; algae slime on bottom and areas of floating algae in many areas; 1.6 at Point of Rocks rising to 5-feet by Thursday
The weather for the rest of the week is not good although a sudden rise as expected will help flush the gunk. Wednesday is the first day of MD resident goose season and you best do-it Wednesday because a 3-foot rise should occur on Thursday (9/2).
Bass fishing remains rather poor except for some areas in the Piedmont where I rate it only slightly better. You may want to use off-the-bottom offerings such as Case Magic Stiks, Magic Swims and Pin Tails. Shallow crankbaits are acceptable and always try those topwater baits in the dawn hours.

TIDAL POTOMAC RIVER: * to *** depending upon sector; 90ish; will color-up after and if the storm does as predicted. Dirty water will reach DC by Thursday and tidal tribs should stain-up too.
A lot of grumbling in some circles but smiles in others—but it’s summer and the water is hot and the catching is not—as expected.
The traditional DC sector hasn’t been red-hot but spend some more time above Key Bridge where smallmouth and even a walleye occasionally strike crankbaits and Case Magic Swims. You have to check-out the Navy side rip rap and Fox Ferry Point is one of those magic s[pots—some times.
Woodrow Wilson Bridge vicinity is stingy but work the slabs in Penrod Cove, the barges between the cove and bridge and Hog Island on the VA side. The Bomber Firetiger crankbait is hard to beat but expect to lose some, Follow up with Campground tubes and a dark Big Shakey should always be tied on one rod.
Hydrilla dominates the flats south of Aquia but look for wood in the mix and cast Case Magic Stiks.
Mattawomkan and Chickamuxen Creeks are getting pounded but frogs and Stiks are likes by bass and snakeheads alike. Schooling stripers starting to form and the birds know where.

SUSQUEHANNA & JUNIATA RIVERS: ***; mid m80s; clear but look out; 4.6 at the Harrisburg station but jumping to 10-feet by Friday. On the Juniata at Newport, 4-feet now but SIXTEEN by Friday—if you trust NWS predictions.
It was a good level all week but Fred will change that and quickly.
Wear you Simms and Drake rain gear the next few days and get on the water early. Whopper Ploppers and Big Mouth buzzbaits are low light attractors but switch to Bg Mouth spinnebaits and bladed jg when the sun is up.
