SUSUEHANNA & JUNIATA RIVERS, PA: ***; 70ish; some color; 5.6 at Harrisburg slowly falling; 5.7 at Newport slowly falling
It’s not often that the rivers have tis much water this late in May but that’s a good thing. Between Rockville Bridge and Montgomery Ferry anglers are scoring great with Big Mouth spinnerbaits, some topwater and the good ol’ Campground tube (available at Riverfro0nt Campground) but always have a Case Magic Swim on an RAB swim jig head–always. Remember, too, that Riverfront Campground rents boats and shuttles are available.
Xak Marinkov is available for some weekend dates and lots of dates for summer trips. Reach Zak at 717-447-2206. \
UPPER POTOMAC RIVER: ***; 70ish; some color and good water: 2.8 at Point of Rocks with a rise to 4.1 by Monday
I’m happy to report that the upper Potomac is quite productive these days and seldom used. Jason Penrod spent time at Lander where he fished both upstream and down with with a smile on. It’s tubes, Magic Stiks, Whopper Ploppers and Big Mouth spinnerbaits.
TIDAL POTOMAC RIVER: **; high 60s; traffic stain but clearish.
We struggled this week as bass were post spawn and not looking for chase-down foods yet. A good example is a 1785 boat tournament from Smallwood had 27 anglers with “0” bass to weigh.
We searched from Dc to Occoquan with nearly identical results.
Look for bass on drop-offs with crankbaits and tubes but move shallow if the sun is out. Our best producers have been tubes, Big Mouth vibrating jigs, Bog Mouth Penrod spinnerbait and Case Magic Stik.
