SUSQUEHANNA & JUNIATA RIVERS, PA: ***; 60s; colored to muddy; FLOOD CONDITIONS ALERT; 6.5 at Harrisburg jumping to 10.9 by Sunday; 11 feet at SUNBURY rising to 15 feet Sunday-falling after; 12 feet at Newport (CAUTION) on the Juniata, rising to 15 feet plus Sunday; 9 feet in Sherman Creek—a SEVEN FOOT RISE.
Damn the bad luck—I’m afraid the spawns that have occurred, especially in the Juniata and Sherman Creek, are endangered by this recent high water and that’s a bummer. I think the river above the Juniata confluence will be ok because to compare to Harrisburg, we usually divide the level at Sunbury by 2—and that would mean it’s like fishing 7.5 feet. The Juniata flooding is influencing the Harrisburg gauge.
A very good fishing week prior to this latest insult.
TIDAL POTOMAC RIVER; ***’s in places but **’s in others. Mid 60s; clear but LOOK OUT; the UPPER POTOMAC will flood spewing massive debris for the coming week
My first week back on the Potomac had a poor beginning but very good results by week’s end until the cold front hit and the rains began to pour.
Boat traffic to the south was horrible as tournament after tournament crowds the launch sites and waters nearby. Maryland DNR is hell bent on ruining most resources, i.e., Rockfish, Oysters, blue crabs, smallmouth bass and Upper Bay and Potomac largemouth.
I lost Friday and Saturday due to tournament Traffic and weather.
I’m using Ardent rods and reels, spinning (6.6’ Edge with C-Force reels) for finesse and baitcasting (6-7” Edge rods with Summit Hawk reels) for tight-line presentations.”
My spinning reels hold 8 pound test, green, Excel mono by Bass Pro and my baitcasting options range from 12 to 20 pound depending on lure choice.
It’s as though I haven’t left the Susquehanna because my top producing baits continue to be Campground tubes in the KP Seris; Case Magic Stik in the “Ken’s Stik” or gold flake, green pumpkin and the Case MAGIC Swim attached to an RAB Swim-Jig head by Johnny Cunningham. A “Penrod” spinnerbait by Big Mouth Lure Company should always be attached to a rod and love those Big Shaky vibrating jigs.
We are catching bass between Penrod Cove and Pohick Bay. Tides were goofy this week but it didn’t seem to matter. There is substantial spawn-prep activity
UPPER POTOMAC RIVER: **; 60s, flooding NOW; 76.5 at Point of Rocks RISING TO 16-feet by Monday (STAY AWAY)
Enough said.

For well-behaved boys 12-18 that are really, really into fishing and shooting. We don’t tell ghost stories and roast marshmallows because my boys are doing manly stuff from dawn till dark.
My lodge is in northern PA, a five bedroom facility near a trout stream. Parents are not permitted. We interview each other in person and the boys all ride to camp with me and my councilors.
Sessions are weekly, Monday thru Friday. $1000
Two Weeks: (includes a weekend) $2200
Sessions: July 11-15; July 18-22; July 25-29 (we must have at least 6 boys to make it work per week)
First Step: Request an application; interview; 50% down payment; no refund if you don’t keep your date.
