SUSQUEHANNA & JUNIATA RIVERS, PA: ***; 70s; 5.8 at Harrisburg going to 6.9 by Monday; 9.9 at Newport on the Juniata (5 foot jump),
The river needed some maintenance rain and it happened. That color isn’t a bad thing and there is still plenty to fish. Topwater lures keep you smiling but spinnerbaits tubes and Campground tubes are solid.
The Juniata took a hit with a five foot jump so let it settle a while. I’m predicting one more spawn period so look to the full moon (23rd) week.
TIDAL POTOMAC RIVER: ***; 70s; good color;
It was a perfect week to begin my 2024 Tidal pursuit with great tides; low barometer; cloudy skies, light winds and hungry bass.
I worked the upper tidal sectors and found fish in all the old familiar places—and I saw one other boat all week.
My “slow-down & fish” curriculum was spot on everywhere and spinning tackle with 8 pound test mono convinced everyone that took up space on my boat.
Campground tubes (purple tail and KP Rose) on 1.8th ounce RAB jig heads; Case Magic Stik on 3/0 hook in green pumpkin/gold; Case Magic Swim on 3/16 ounce RAB Swim Jig Heads were the bullets for my spinning attack but I use Ardent baitcasting and 15# test mono for my Penrod spinnerbaits and Big Shakeys by Big Mouth Lure Company.
Suggested areas include: DC Channel and Marinas; Piscataway Creek; Pomonkey Creek; Occoquan channel shoal; Coves near mouth of Mattawoman and Chickamuxen.
