About Ken Penrod’s Life Outdoors Unlimited
Ken Penrod’s Life Outdoors Unlimited has been in the guiding business since 1982. We have grown to be one of the countries’ largest and most respected fresh and brackish water guide services. We serve most fresh or brackish waters in Maryland, Delaware, District of Columbia, Virginia and Pennsylvania. We specialize in largemouth, smallmouth and striped bass—but if you want catfish or crappie, we know how to do it. We do not clean fish.
Our guides are professionals, and they genuinely like people. We provide service to touring pros, corporate executives, world leaders and beginning anglers with the same enthusiasm and dedication. Appropriately licensed and insured, our guides pursue their trade with the finest equipment and boats in the industry.
We operate 12-months of the year—seven days a week, offering partial day, full day and multiple day outings. We have no problem providing several boats for your outing or tournament event either. Our “record” is 50 boats for a single event.
We practice “catch & release” for all black bass–but stripers in season or other fish species are OK to take home. We prefer artificial lures.
We prefer to take one or two anglers per boat but if you “must” take the third person, we can make it work sometimes. The fee does increase. Please see the “Rates” section as it does vary according to water and guide.
The business end is simple. Call Ken’s cell at 240-447-2206 or our office (301-937-0010), or the guide directly if you wish. We will require a nonrefundable $200 deposit (full fee for out of town guests). We will send you a “Trip Check.” Once you choose the day—only we can change it. If you miss your date, you forfeit the deposit. We fish rain-or-shine and will postpone a trip only for dangerous conditions—and that’s our call. You must sign our standard “waiver of claims” and you will pay the balance of the fee plus applicable “expenses” at the end of your outing. We expect cash or check.
You are responsible for adequate clothing, including rain gear, lunch and drinks, lost lures and broken tackle. We will not condone illegal drug usage and alcoholic beverage consumption must be moderate. You must advise your guide of preexisting injuries, physical impairments and any medication you take.
We enjoy teaching youngsters and the ladies are more than welcome. When youngsters come with you—they become our focus. The “girls” can handle themselves, more often than not by outfishing the male.
How well you do on any guided trip is dependent upon your skill level, weather conditions and the mood of the fish. We guarantee our complete effort.
We prefer that you bring your own rods and reels—and tackle, but if that’s not possible, we will provide for you. If you lose our lures or break or rods—you pay for that. We use Ardent spinning and baitcasting tackle—and we also provide fly fishing opportunities if you wish. We do not “loan” fly rods.
Come join us for one of the wonderful trips we have to offer. This is a business, but we sleep better each night knowing that you had a fruitful day—and we made new friends.
Hey–Ken actually wrote-the-books- on fishing our waters and we have been successful since 1982.
