SUSQUEHANNA & JUNIATA RIVERS: * to ***; mid-fifties; clear with stain on east side; 5.9 at Harrisburg rising to 6 by Wednesday; 5.3 at Newport on the Juniata rising to 5.8 by Wednesday.
The question early in the week was “Where did the fish go,” but by Thursday we found out. There was a major spawn last week and fishing toughened. Our numbers rose into the 60s with many of those in the 9-14 inch range which is GOOD NEWS. I always say: “First the small guys show up—then the fat girls.” Another “spawn” is obvious.
Each day I get new anglers to fish with and some show up with their own ideas on what to use. Quite soon in their day—they realize that Ken’s fishing reports are absolutely accurate and they change to Campground tubes and Case Magic Swims on spinning tackle (Ardent) and 8# mono (Bass Pro Excel).
Three days in a row I didn’t wear Simms rain gear (wind gear) but the coming week looks like long underwear and bibs.
I notice on a continuing basis that others we observe are simply fishing too fast. Slow down guys. Milk the good spots. I use the Lowrance Ghost trolling motor and rarely use power setting over 4 or 5.
Buy your tubes, RAB jig heads and swim jig heads at Riverfront Campground or call Johnny Cunningham at 717-877-2704 for delivery.
The Case products I brag about can be found at www.fishingcompleteinc.com and you may use my personal discount (KenP20) for 20% off. I’m all-in for Case Magic Stiks; Case Magic Swims; Zipper Worms; Zipper grubs.
I note with pleasure that our clients have been catching bigger bass than is past years and our “Ken Penrod 20-Inch Smallmouth Club” members are way ahead of recent years. John Ennis Jr is the current leader with a 21.75” beast.
CAPTAIN DAVE KERRIGAN REPORTS (later)

TIDAL POTOMAC RIVER: ***; 60s; some stain some places;
Awesome results in many sectors as mild weather and full moon has many bass is sawn mode.
You can’t see it but vegetation of many varieties are growing in many sectors and bass and bait seek it like a bee does flowers.
Use your moving baits to locate fish, especially lipless rattling lures and Big Mouth spinnerbaits or vibrating jigs. Follow-up with Case Magic Stiks and KP Series tubes.
I’ll give middle Potomac an A; Tidal Fresh area a B; south Potomac an A.
<>
UPPER POTOMAC RIVER: ***; high 50s; some color. 3.4 at Point of Rocks rising slightly thru Wednesday.
With pleasure, I’ll state the “the river is fishing better than any time since the 1918 floods. There is substantial spawning activity in the Piedmont sector.
