<>
TIDAL POTOMAC RIVER: ** to ***; 80s; algae color in areas; some color in tribs; salty to WW Bridge.
The rain was some help but not as much as the prolonged low barometer.
Vegetation or lack-of, in the DC sector has become the norm in recent years so its back to “real” fishing. DC is rich in man-made aquatic habitat where both bait and prey exist. Highlights here this week include Washington Channel dropoff with 7A firetigers; rip rap from the Anacostia to Bolling with tubes and Case Magic Swims; Railroad and Key Bridge foundations with tubes and Zipper Worms; Airport rip rap with crank baits and Big Mouth Big Shaky. Save the rip rap for higher tides.
<>
UPPER POTOMAC RIVER (Brunswick to Seneca): **; bathtub hot; algae; slight color; 2.3 at Point of Rocks.
No matter what happened this week, we are still about 6-inches short of average rain fall for the year—but we welcome the donation.
You have to try the topwater lures in the mornings (buzzbait, Whopper Plopper) and Spook—but don’t be stubborn. Best lures continue to be Big Mouth spinnerbait; Case Magic Stik and when it’s tough—cast a four-inch curly tail grub on an RAB jig head.
Seneca, Whites Ferry, Lander and Brunswick are top choices in the Piedmont.
<>
SUSQUEHANNA, JUNIATA & UPPER WB DRAINAGE: ** to ***; high 70s; color; lots of rain in lots of areas.
I spent the weekend and will stay all week, at our lodge in Cameron County where most trout streams feed the West Branch—and the trout were biting.
Wonder what happened to the millions of dollars that Norfolk Southern paid to PA Fish Commission and PA IPA? I travel and fish the Sinnamahoning Creek area a bunch—and I cannot see any improvement. For he record, NS wrecked a train and dumped thousands of gallons into the creek wiping-out most aquatic I habitants for dozens of miles downstream.
